By Ken Wright, St Simon of Cyrene Lincoln Heights
In the process of canvassing churches and other diocesan institutions, in December I visited St Monica’s Community Center in Lincoln Heights. Next door to St Simon of Cyrene, it is run by the Convent of the Transfiguration, and Mike Pearl is the director. It’s an amazing facility, with indoor sports, playground, meeting rooms and computers and facilities for youth in particular, and they run a very active program for many children in Lincoln Heights. Turns out the Mike Pearl and I have an interesting connection – he and my daughter were lab partners at Wyoming High. He also gave motivational talks for my wife’s junior high students when she was teaching. He’s a dedicated and inspiring individual.
